It's a known fact in the sport of baseball that strong pitching wins ballgames. This fact was never more apparant than in this year's PCBL Wood Bat Fall Championship under the stars at El Cariso park. Matt Parris was flawless for the Muckdogs, allowing only 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 11 in 5 complete innings of work.

He came out of the game with a comfortable 8-1 lead; turning it over to Jeremy White in the top of the 6th who kept the Cubs scoreless for the remainder of the contest. White's numbers were almost as impressive - allowing no runs on 3 hits with 6 K's in 4 innings of work.

With the duel dominance of Matt Parris and Jeremy White on the mound, the only noteworthy offense provided by the Cubs came in the 3rd inning. Carlos Gonzales and Rick Fernandez had back to back 2-out singles for the Cubs, and Gonzales scored on a fielding error for the teams only run in the game.

As far as the Muckdogs were concerned, they had runs to spare and the highlights were many. The Muckdogs scored 1 run in the 1st inning on back to back doubles by Devin Ellis and Javik Mahon to score the game's 1st run. A run of 4 straight singles from Stan Spancer, who got it started with a great bunt, followed by Oscar Mendoza, Devin Ellis and Javik Mahon add another 3 runs in the 3rd.3 The MuckDogs continued the hit parade with 4 runs in the 4th Javik Mahon (again) and Corey Pearson both contributing RBI singles. The game was put on ice in the 6th scoring a big 5 runs on singles by Stan Spancer, Matt Parris and (guess who) Javik Mahon; combined with 2 errors, 2 hit batters and 2 walks; the MuckDogs end up cruising to a 13-1 victory to claim the title as the Fall Wood Bat Champs.

The Cubs sent up a network of pitchers throughout the contest - Eddie Mercado, Freddy Esqueda, Albert Moreno & Josh Miranda. In their defense, each of them came in to pitch with a bigger hole to dig out of than the pitcher before him. Nonetheless, these guys hung in there despite the timely hitting of the MuckDogs who just kept coming.

Congratulations to the MuckDogs on their dominating championship victory! The MuckDogs end up taking 2 out of the 3 Wood Bat League Titles in 2005, winning both the Spring and now the Fall League Championships.
