Hollywood Stars -vs- Nationals

The Stars Shine Brightly

Mark Hernandez's Hollywood Stars successfully defended the Saturday League crown making easy work of the #1 seeded Nationals at University HS.  Ace Mike McKernan tossed a complete game 5-hitter striking out 7 Nationals.

The Stars opened the scoring in the top of the first after Kris Hernandez reached on an error and was subsequently knocked in on Bobby Gutierrez single.  The Nationals knotted it at 1 in the bottom of the 2nd, stringing together a hit and 2 walks.

Neither club scored in the 3rd but the Stars racked up 4 tallies in their half of the 4th to take the lead.  They added 2 more in the 5th running the score to 7-1.

Leading the Stars was their leadoff hitter, the  ubiquitous Pac Gutierrez with 2 hits.  Bobby Gutierrez also had 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Joe Balogh scored 2 runs and hit a double.  Hon Arana reached bases 4 times and Charlie Cortez had a single and 2 walks.

Kenny Tolbert's Nationals finished the regular season with an 11-1 mark, leading the league in scoring while allowing the fewest runs in the circuit.  Southpaw McKernan scattered 5 hits and 4 walks while holding the Stars to one solitary run.  Travis Chapman had 2 hits and scored a run

PCBL is proud of both ball clubs who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season.  They both played hard and earned their way to the championship.  Even without his best stuff, McKernan threw a blanket over the Nationals.

The Stars had 7 runs on 8 hits and no errors.  The Nationals scored 1 run on 5 hits and 3 errors.
